With a name like Snug Harbor, this bar already makes you feel like you're home in your apartment. This downtown hangout, located on Gordon St, is quite possibly the best place in the Plaza Midwood area to discover new local bands, with a regular rotating schedule of live music from mostly rock outfits. Here, it's all about the music, as even the bar's official site is simply a list of

upcoming gigs with links to the band's MySpace pages. It's not just local bands who play here; there's an impressive list of unsigned touring bands who vie to get an open slot, too.

This watering-hole has a unique pirate theme, including red walls, paintings of ships, and more pirate flags than you can shake a wooden leg at. Despite its heavily-tattooed crowd, this place has a pretty relaxed vibe to it, with mismatched furniture and colorful lighting, and most of the patrons are college-aged. Smoking is allowed throughout the bar, so that might be an issue for some.

If the scene is too loud or it's too smoky for you, don't head back to your apartment just yet - the bar features two sprawling front and back patios where you can just chill with a beer and people-watch.
