On a beautiful day in Charlotte, you won't want to spend your time cooped up in your apartment. Freedom Park on East Boulevard is like a mini NYC Central Park. Sprawling across 98 acres, this massive outdoor park features 4 baseball and soccer fields, a basketball court, tennis and volleyball courts. Aside from sports, there are 5 outdoor shelters with grills and 2 playgrounds, but if you're more of a

pure nature-loving apartment-ite you can take advantage of the walking paths and trails, or enjoy a stroll along the park's 7-acre lake.

Freedom Park is open from dawn until dusk, and the landscaping is indeed beautiful, but there aren't too many shady areas if you're exploring the park on hot days. But there are other things to do when the sun goes down: the park often has an outdoor projector showing old movies in the summer, and the area also boasts an amphitheater and The Mahlon Adams Pavilion, which is often reserved for weddings and parties. If you get peckish, there's a decent variety of concession stands dotted throughout. Often there are festivals, meetups (including yoga) and markets that make a stop here. But otherwise, this is a pleasant place to have a picnic or just sit on a bench and read a good book.
