After you've unpacked and settled into your Charlotte apartment, a great way to get stuck into the community spirit is to visit Midwood Park, located in the Plaza Midwood neighborhood. Aside from some tranquil greenery and walking trails, there's a small outdoor amphitheatre that plays host to local and touring indie bands, as well as festivals, local meetups and other neighborhood events.

A uniquely charming aspect of the park is

its community garden, where local residents grow their own plants, herbs and flowers. There's a separate children's garden area, along with some stepping stones and other decorative art pieces. If you're more of a sports-lover, there are tennis and basketball courts as well as a soccer field.

Often there are staff members around who can give you some tips on cultivating your own plant, either there or even in your own apartment. All of this is for the benefit of the community, and you'll find many residents just volunteering to help out. The park itself is relatively large, and because it's a community project, there are always plans to improve and add to it.
